THE BEST TOURS
TO THE SACRED VALLEY
Structures such as those you can see in Pisac or Ollantaytambo have made the valley one of the favorite places for travelers from all over the world, especially because it is the entrance to Machu Picchu citadel. This Valley was the center of Tahuantinsuyo, the largest known empire in the Western Hemisphere. It covered from Colombia and Ecuador, through Peru and Bolivia to the northern part of Argentina and Chile; Its capital is Cusco, known as the "navel of the world".
The Sacred Valley, located at the bottom of the Andes, which surround Cusco, had a great importance for the Incas because they built there palaces, temples and fortresses which are a World Heritage now.
The name of Sacred Valley is applied to the section of the valley which goes along the Urubamba river that includes towns like Pisac, Calca, Yucay, Urubamba and Ollantaytambo. where the river flows among farmland and mountainsides with steep farming platforms. On the top, Pitusiray, Sahuasiray, Verónica and Chicón mountains stand with their peaks of perpetual snow that reach 5750 meters above sea level.
The Urubamba River valley has been a privileged area for corn crops since ancient times and of course the Inca period.
